Instead of having to go into the game that your buddy is playing in an inconvenient way there should be a button on your buddy's profile that let's you join your buddy.
I think this would be a pretty nice qol update.
You should be able to join your buddies directly

i believe that feature already exists, i've seen it on a few peoples profiles. but people can customize who can and can't join them so maybe that's why you haven't seen it
